Chain of Custody Policy

1. What It Is

Every delivery on Gadgetplace is tracked through a verified chain of custody. Photos, GPS coordinates, and timestamps are collected at every point the device changes hands, so there is always a clear record of who had the device and when.

2. The Chain

A device moves through four custody stages:

Vendor → Courier Pickup → Courier Transit → Buyer

Each transfer requires photo and GPS confirmation from the person handing over or receiving the device before the order can move to its next stage.

3. Security Seals

When a vendor completes the pre-shipment checklist, a unique security seal number is generated for that shipment. The rider verifies the seal at pickup, and the buyer should check that the seal is still intact before accepting delivery. A broken seal on arrival gives the buyer an immediate right to reject the delivery and open a dispute — see our Delivery Policy.

4. Evidence Use

• Custody evidence is used to resolve disputes fairly between buyers, vendors, and riders
• Evidence is stored securely for 2 years
• Evidence is accessible to Gadgetplace administrators and to the relevant parties involved in a dispute

5. Liability by Stage

• Vendor — liable for the device until the courier accepts it at pickup
• Courier — liable for the device while it is in transit
• Buyer — liable for the device once delivery is accepted and receipt is confirmed
